Years ago, Milt did a lot of abalone diving at Jughandle State Park outside of Fort Bragg and this was a chance for him to take the boys into the water and introduce them to Abalone Diving. John and Kohl had learned to scuba dive for their senior year project, so they had their own wet suits for the trip - Milt and Lee had rented equipment earlier in the day from the dive shop so they would be set to go, also. It was a beautiful day in Fort Bragg, so this should be a nice trip for the guys. At one time, when Lee and John were just about 10 and 8, Milt and Rick Salvador took them and Rob Salvador for a trip abalone diving. The suits that were rented for the boys was way too thin and they almost froze to death in the water. They did not stay in the water that day and ended up waiting at the car in the parking lot warming up while Milt, Rick and Rob continued to dive - throwing that in as just a side story here !

Taking the hike to get to the water -- it's a little bit of a hike to reach the water, and there's lots of equipment to have to carry...along with weight belts - you see slung over Kohl and John's shoulders.

Heading down the bluff - you can see Lee down on the beach, followed by Kohl, then John and Milt. Wonder if they are thinking that they are going to have to climb back up this same bluff once they get their abs -- after they have swam a long distance around the point...???

And, Kohl picked the largest -- Lee got one, and Milt did not bag any -- he did not have a good dive...and in spite of that, thoroughly enjoyed taking the boys to the water.

It was a pretty productive dive and I think everyone really enjoyed the time in the water. Lee and Amber had to head back to Lakeport to visit with her family = John and Kohl made a second dive and John got another 4 abs -- probably couldn't stand that Kohl had gotten the largest one on the first dive...
